This week we spoke to Marie Vivent, one of the Producers in our Adaptation team. She chatted to us about her past career as a journalist, favourite aspects of her role, and what she gets up to in her spare time after nine years of living in London.
“I was actually a journalist for ten years, before I joined adam&eveStudios. Working in France, I was reporting for radio and TV before moving to London in 2015. My plan was just to stay for a year, but – like many French people – nine years on, I’m still here.
After working as a freelance reporter for general news, and then a full-time journalist at a sports agency, I was looking for a new challenge after the pandemic, and the opportunity to join the agency and train as a Junior Producer presented itself. I worked hard to be promoted to Producer after a year and now, even after two and a half years, I’m still learning every day. I’m also proud to now be the designated producer for some of our biggest clients.
My role sits within the adaptation team, which in essence is helping to make brand campaigns more relevant and available to a wider global audience. Unlike our Accounts Team who tackle direct written translations, our team deals with the editing and post-production of audio-visual assets. This work can range from the mastering of crops (creating assets for socials) to the localisation of multiple assets for different media that need to be delivered worldwide, often on the same day.
We’re often also recording new voiceovers (VOs) for numerous languages and countries. This is where having a multilingual team is so handy, as we’re well-placed to advise with adaptations in our native language, especially when clients have last-minute script amends during recording sessions. If we’re recording a VO for the newest Lipton Tea advert that appears in France, it’s fun to tell my family to keep an eye out for my work.
We’re a small team, but we’re proud to deliver work across the world for so many markets, often across many languages and specificities. As producers, we sort of act as the link between account teams, editors, and quality control, so it can occasionally be challenging, but I really enjoy it. One of my favourite parts of the role is the speed, and that fact that you’re always working on different projects. Although I think it’s good to be comfortable in a job, I never want to be bored.
Having worked for more than two years in the industry now, my goal is just to progress and get better and better as a producer. It’s always hard to say where your career will take you – ten years ago I didn’t even know I’d be in London!
Outside of work, I’m a big theatre and musical fan. I also love sports – rugby in particular (I come from Toulouse after all, a city of rugby, with the most successful team in Europe). And ever since COVID, I now volunteer once a month at a foodbank in South-West London which is organised by Wimbledon Football fans. Not only is it nice to give back, but it’s also been a really lovely way to meet new people.”
